A Calhoun, Ga Family Loses Everything In An F-3 Tornado

Three stitches and five staples,?it is?not exactly what you would?call a Christmas miracle.

Well, that is until you hear Davison Sheriff's story, and see what is?left of his home.

Sheriff adds, "The pressure in the house changed.? My ears started popping."

When Sheriff heard those warning signs, he took his family to what used to be the bathroom closet.

Sheriff says, "From there we started hearing the tin rip of the top of the house."

Sheriff, his wife, and another family member put Owen, 1,?in the middle of the closet, and clung to him tighter than they ever thought possible.

Sheriff adds, "I was thinking, is there really going to be a tornado in December?"

And as soon as he could get that thought out, winds lifted up the frame of his house and cast it aside, and as a group, hurled them over carpet tacks and onto their lawn.

Sheriff adds, "I was thinking, is this the way we're going to die?"

But, miraculously, not one piece of debris going 150 miles per hour hit them.

Sheriff adds, "I'd glance and see a washing machine fly by or hot water heater."

Now, the baby is bruised, and the vehicles are crushed, but that is ok Sheriff, says, because if that is?the worst that comes out of an F-3 Tornado, then?we are?pretty lucky.

Sheriff adds, "Very lucky that we all survived, very lucky."

And the rest of Gordon County was just as lucky.

Nearly 100 homes were affected, two completely destroyed, but no fatalities.

Richard Cooper, EMA Director with Gordon County, says, "It's possible that it actually touched down, lifted back up, and maybe touched down again, and done the same thing in the Northwest corner."

After the National Weather Service took to the skies Friday, Cooper says the tornado moved across the county in a diagonal, from the Southwest corner to the Northeast corner.

It took Christmas presents and left?the wrapping paper behind.

Sheriff says, "Amazing."

But despite all that, Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston, says, "We're so blessed.? This is our Christmas miracle."

About 100 North Georgia EMC customers in Gordon County are still without power Friday night.
